(This week, The Greenville Advocate spotlights Marcia Davis Paulk, a teacher at Fort Dale Academy.)

Q: When and where were you born?

A: I was born in 1960 in Selma.

 

Q: Where did you attend school?

A: I went to Lowndes Academy from first through 12^th grades. Then, I attended Auburn University Montgomery.

 

Q: Where all have you lived?

A: Dutchbend, Hayneville, Sandy Ridge, Fort Deposit and now, Mount Willing.

 

Q: Where do you work? Tell us about your job/company.

A: I am a science, biology and anatomy teacher at Fort Dale and have been since 1991.

 

Q: What led you to your profession?

A: I wanted to coach, so I decided to teach. I coached for a long time, but I’ve just been teaching now for 20 years.

 

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: The interaction with the kids and watching them succeed.

 

Q: What was your first job?

A: I taught at Fort Deposit Academy for two years beginning in 1983.

 

Q: If you could relive one day from your life, what day would you choose?

A: Any day that I could spend with my mother and sister again.

 

Q: What is your spouse’s name? What does he do for a living?

A: Kenneth Paulk. He owns Paulk Construction.

 

Q: Do you have any children?

A: I do not have any biological kids, but I like to think of all my students as my kids.

 

Q: If you could have anything for your last meal on earth, what would it be?

A: Hamburger and French fries.

 

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

A: Bora Bora would be amazing to go visit.

 

Q: What hobbies do you like to do in your spare time?

A: I love to decorate and cook when I’m not teaching.

 

Q: What do you enjoy about living and working in Greenville and Butler County?

A: I love the small town feel of this area. I really do feel like we’re a big family at FDA, too.

 

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone from your life or history, who would it be and why?

A: I’d say President H.W. Bush since he just passed away and my grandfather. That would be a great duo to eat with.

Q: Would you rather read a good book or watch a good movie and why?

A: I love a good movie. I love classics like “Gone With the Wind,” but also more recent ones like “Forrest Gump.”

 

Q: What moment in your life has had the biggest impact on you?

A: The day I decided to go into teaching.

Q: What would be the No. 1 thing on your Bucket List?

A: Visiting Bora Bora.

Q: If you could describe your morals in three words, what would they be?

A: Respect, love and dedication.

Q: How would you like to be remembered?

A: I would like to be remembered as a teacher that was tough, but that loved her students and teaching.
