A chance to do some early Christmas shopping, enjoy festive food, entertain the kids and help a worthy cause is coming to McKenzie this Saturday, Nov. 17.

The McKenzie Holiday Market is returning for its fourth year at the McKenzie School Gym, and organizers say the event is bigger and better than ever. The holiday market kicks off at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. with proceeds going to the McKenzie Quarterback Club.

“We are excited at all the interest that’s been shown in this year’s holiday market, and I am pleased to say we will have a full gym and vendors outside with items to sell,” says Tori Norris, who heads up the market committee.

Included in those items to be offered by more than 20 vendors will be children’s clothing, woodcrafts, jewelry, holiday décor and much, more more.

“We will also offer some delicious food for sale—we are smoking Boston butts that we will use in our barbecue sandwiches and barbecue nachos, plus there will be hot dogs and fries,” says Norris.

“And this year, we are adding two fun items to our menu—funnel cakes and fried Oreos. So be sure and bring your appetites!”

Want to shop but need to keep the youngsters occupied?

No worries, says Norris.

“We will once again have our big bouncy inflatables along with face painting and other activities to keep the kids busy while their moms and grandmothers shop with us.”

The price of admission to the holiday market is $2, with children under five admitted free.

The monies raised by admission charges, booth rentals and food sales will go in support of all of McKenzie School’s athletic programs, not only varsity football, Norris says.

“We have been averaging raising around $2,000 a year, so this is an important fundraiser for all our school’s athletes. We hope everyone will turn out and come and visit us this Saturday.”
