Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s unfortunate that some of our fellow Alabamians and fellow Americans have to deal with the effects of Hurricane Michael over the course of the next few days.

Fortunately for all of us in the Butler County area, the storm didn’t bring as much bad weather as we once thought it would. Having just moved to south Alabama, I’ve learned quickly that tropical storms are a normal part of life. It took large hurricanes, like Ivan, to affect north Alabama. It’s taken a little getting used to, but I guess it’s just one of those things that will become expected this time of year.

What hasn’t been expected is the warm temperatures we’ve been having since fall began nearly one month ago. It was shocking to see the thermometer hit nearly 100 degrees in late September, but it happened. I’m very much tired of the heat. So, it’s safe to say I’m very excited about this weekend.

Our forecast in Butler County is looking fantastic over the weekend. Most projections have temperatures in the upper 70s with no humidity during the day, and cool at night. This weekend will be the kind of weather we down south like to call, “football weather.”

The nippy temps are honestly my favorite part of attending high school football games. I love seeing the parents bring in their blankets, and maybe a pair of gloves just in case in gets too cold. Soon the cheerleaders will be sporting their full cheer suite, which consists of pants and long sleeves. I’m certain the players won’t mind the cooler temps either.

After Friday night, we’ll turn the page to Saturday, and get ready for some college football all day long. Finally, I’ll be able to watch games on the back deck and grill some food while not having to deal with oppressive humidity. As of now, I’m not sure what will be on the menu, but I’m willing to bet chicken wings will be apart of it.

After the games go off I fully intend to finally use my outdoor chimney as the temps creep into the 50s. That’s an experience I’ve missed for nearly a full year.

Changes in weather are coming as quickly as Hurricane Michael swept through Southeast Alabama and Georgia. Before we know it, the temps will be near freezing, and we’ll all be missing out shorts and football.

So, as the extremely comfortable temps roll in this weekend, get out an enjoy it. All the rain we’re in for today, and tomorrow will be a little bit annoying, but just think about all the outdoors time headed our way this weekend. I know I am.
