It only took Hurricane Michael a few hours to intensify from a Category 3 storm to a Category 4 yesterday evening. As of this morning, it remains a dangerous Category 4 hurricane and is set to make landfall at or near Panama City around 1 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm this large has never hit the Florida panhandle.

As for the Greenville area, sporadic tropical wind gusts and rain is all that is to be expected. The NWS stated that areas east of Interstate 65 should expect wind gusts between 30 and 50 mph between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Greenville area has a three out of 10 chance of experiencing tropical force winds, and flooding isn’t expected to be an issue. Estimated rain totals are .5 to 1 inch for Butler County.

Any threat of tropical conditions will dissipate by 7 p.m. and by 9 p.m. the Greenville area will no longer feel any effects of Michael, according to the NWS.
