A day full of playing music, and marching in the south Alabama sun yielded the Greenville Marching Band superior ratings in two competitions. The Tiger Pride band travled to Rehobeth and Daleville last Saturday to perform in the first band competitions of the season.

The first stop was in Rehobeth where the GHS band earned superior rating in all categories. GHS band director Brett Johnson he was thrilled, but didn’t want to share the information too fast.

“I knew about the superior rating after our first performance, but I decided to keep it hush, hush since we still had one competition left that day,” he said. “After Rehobeth, we got on the bus and headed to the Daleville Classic.”

Different, venue, same results for the Tiger Pride Band as they once again earned superior ratings across the board.

“I was extremely proud of all the effort that went into earning those superior ratings,” Johnson said. “This is the fourth year in a row to receive superior ratings at these two competitions. We have several more competitions ahead.”

The Tiger Pride Band will travel to Andalusia on Saturday to compete in the A-Town Contest. After that they will compete in Troy and Prattville on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Johnson attributes the program’s success in recent years to work done by past members.

“We’ve had a lot of great alumnus who have left the program better that it was when they got here,” he concluded. “That progression has helped, and it’s helped build a tradition. Our band this year has done a great job with the show. The songs may not be as difficult, but the entire show is creative, and difficult to perform. I’m really impressed with them so far this year.”
