Marion, a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, had a lifelong intellectual curiosity that she directed to the promotion of education, equality and the love of literature. In 1969 she helped found Ft. Dale Academy where she remained a driving force for many years. Marion encouraged her children and grandchildren to never stop learning, questioning and growing, both inside and outside the classroom.

Her home in Greenville was known for its open-door policy. Everyone was welcome, several even stayed for years. Her love of nature and animals meant that her home always included a menagerie of furry family members. Summers for Marion were extended trips to the beautiful Gulf Coast with family and friends.

Marion understood the importance of family meals and passed her love for fine dining and cooking on to her children. In her later years, Marion developed a sweet tooth and coming between her and her chocolates was not recommended.

A private memorial will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial gifts be directed to The Butler County Humane Society or the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Capitol Fund.
