Leo Daniel Smith, age 88, of Ashford, Ala., died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Westside Terrace Health Care Facility after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2018 in the Chapel of the Angels at Family First Funeral Care with Rev. Jesse Ward officiating. Internment services will be private. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, Tn. 38106.

Mr. Smith was born in Georgiana, Ala., son of the late Perry Smith and Katie Lou Sims Smith. He had a 25-year career with the W.T. Smith Lumber Company Union Camp in Georgiana as a train engineer prior to moving to the Dothan and Ashford area 44 years ago. Mr. Smith also worked for the EE Bentley Insulation Company and lastly with DSI as a security officer and was of Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Ann Smith of Ashford, 4 sons- Buddy (Laurie) Smith of Eufaula, Danny (Nita) Smith, Jimmy (Annette) Smith all of Georgiana, and Paul (Peggy) Brannon of Headland; 4 daughters, Joyce (David) Pierce and Becky (Charlie Sexton) Gafford of Greenville, Deborah (Johnny) Carpenter of Georgiana and Tina (Larry) Miller of Taylor; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and 3 brothers and sisters also survive. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
