Citizens in Greenville and the surrounding areas can sleep easier knowing that The Greenville Sleep Clinic has earned another five-year reaccreditation.

The top-rated clinic located at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital offers patients with sleep apnea the treatment needed to get a good night’s rest. It earned the reaccreditation after no issues were documented.

Terrie Bagents, Stanley Moore and Carla Moore have managed The Greenville Sleep Clinic since it opened in 2008. Stanley and Carla are the clinic’s registered sleep technicians and Bagents is the hospital’s respiratory director.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine conducts the accreditation process every five years to make sure sleep labs are operating at a certain standard,” Bagents explained. “We had no provisions in our review, which means we met all the standards. That makes 10 years of reaccreditation for our clinic.”

Bagents said they see two patients a night on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week. She said the doctor that refers most of their patients is Dr. David Franco in Montgomery.

“We prefer the referral come from Dr. Franco, but any doctor can refer someone to us,” she said.

Stanley Moore urged anyone who is showing symptoms of sleep apnea should consider having a sleep study performed.

“Sleep apnea can affect just about anyone in any walk of life,” he said. “There have been cases of infants having sleep apnea, so it is not particular about who can have it.”

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 35 percent of people with sleep apnea suffer from high blood pressure, which increases their risk for heart attack; 70 percent of people who have had a stroke have sleep apnea and a person with sleep apnea if seven times more likely to have a car accident.

“We see a lot of people who complain about being drowsy when they’re driving,” Moore said. “That’s a big sign someone is suffering from sleep apnea and can be very dangerous.”
