A Butler County judge has denied a bond reduction request from Harrison Cole English of Greenville.

English, 18, is currently being held on a $500,000 bond in the Butler County Correctional Facility after being charged with the murder of 18-year-old Maura McCoy. He was arrested on Sunday, June 9, and charged with the Montgomery teen’s murder. In a sworn statement to Butler County Sheriff’s investigator Robert Fulton that’s same day, English detailed the events leading up to the murder and the murder itself.

According to court documents, English filed his bond reduction motion on June 14. District Judge Macdonald Russell denied his motion yesterday (Tuesday).

On Monday, the Butler County District Attorney’s office filed a motion of its own. Assistant District Attorney Danielle Myrick McFerrin filed a motion to increase English’s bond. According to court documents, McFerrin felt the bond should increase because the “charges against the defendant (murder) are of such serious nature that the bond should be substantially increased.”

Judge Russell also denied McFerrin’s motion based on the fact that no additional charges have been filed against English.
