It’s that time of year again for the citizens of Butler County and neighboring communities to celebrate Independence Day.

The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Celebrate America festival, which concludes with a large fireworks show on the Fourth of July at Tiger Stadium. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with activities such face painting, beanbag toss, hula-hoops, tic-tac-toe games and balloon animals available for festivalgoers to enjoy.

Live entertainment will be provided by Greenville radio station Q94 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will also be performances by local faith groups beginning at 8 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 520 and the Greenville High School JROTC will present and post the colors before the fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tracy Salter said an extra hour has been added to this year’s event.

“We decided to add an extra hour just so kids can have plenty of time to enjoy the activities on the field,” she said. “It seems a little rushed when the event starts at 7. We want families to have plenty of time to enjoy themselves. The extra hour also gives other local groups a chance to be more involved.”

Salter said the Chamber would have vendors set up selling hot dogs, chips and drinks as well as a shaved ice vendor.

Admission is free and Salter encourages festivalgoers to bring their lawn chairs to enjoy the show.

“No one will be allowed on the field during the show, but they can sit in the parking lot and in the stadium’s seats,” she concluded. “Our fireworks are going be seen all over town. We’re really excited about this show and the entire event as a whole. It’s always a favorite for the people in Greenville.”
