The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s race has been set with Republican candidate Terry Mears pitted against Democrat Rome Odom in November.

Unofficially, Mears defeated the incumbent Mickey Powell with 60 percent of the vote. A total of 3,111 Crenshaw County voters cast ballots in the Republican primary election. Mears earned 1,872 votes to Powell’s 1,239.

Odom defeated Ronnie White with 76 percent of the vote. A total of 1,221 Crenshaw voters participated in the Democratic primary election. Odom earned 931 votes to White’s 290.

Mears said it was a stressful day on Tuesday, but ended with excitement.

“I had several members of my family join me at the Crenshaw County Courthouse to hear the results as they came in,” he said. “I was anxious all day long but when we knew it was going to end in our favor the celebration began.”

Mears said he began campaigning today (Thursday) for his race against Odom.

“I celebrated for 24 hours then got back at it,” he said. “I’m thankful I won the primary, but now it’s time to focus on the General.”
