On Saturday, April 28,  the Greenville High School (GHS) auditorium welcomed 5 contestants to its stage, as the 2018 Miss GHS got underway in the school’s auditorium.

Jordan Neese, Alyssa Lear, Gracie Huggins, Kaitlyn Neese, and Aniyah McClaney were the 5 young ladies vying for the chance to represent the school as its queen.

Todd Henderson and Tomesha Hamilton presided over the pageant as co-emcees.

During the pageant Miss GHS 2017 Riley Campbell completed her final walk. Reflecting on the past year, Campbell said, “It’s been a great opportunity for me to represent my school through different events and also has helped me act as a leader.”

To participate each contestant submitted a photo and application before the pageant, answered an on-stage question, and completed a poise and composure walk on stage.

Student Counselor Greta Whiddon, who works closely with Miss GHS each year, said, “This year our judges had a very difficult time deciding who would be Miss GHS 2018 because they were all beautiful. I wish I could have had a crown for each of them, but we can only have one Miss GHS.”

After a long intermission, the panel of three judges chose contestant No. 5, Alyssa Lear, as first runner-up, with contestant No. 3, Aniyah McClaney, crowned the new Miss GHS for 2018.

Whiddon added, “I look forward to working with Aniyah next year as she visits other schools to encourage young children to work hard to reach their goals. We hope to inspire young ladies to strive to be poised and confident. I think Aniyah will be an excellent representative as she embodies each of those things.”

At the pageant, McClaney was also awarded the Most Photogenic award. Jordan Neese recieved the Scholastic award, and Gracie Huggins was named Miss Congeniality and took home the People’s Choice Award.

Assuming the role, McClaney will represent the school at various functions and school events throughout the year.

Looking forward to the upcoming year, McClaney said, “I am blessed to have been chosen as this year’s Miss Greenville High School. I can’t wait to start being even more active in my community. I would absolutely love the opportunity to be a role model for young girls in the community.”
