Joe Cagle has been named managing editor of The Greenville Advocate, Camellia magazine and affiliated publications and websites. He replaces Jonathan Bryant.

Cagle, a native of Arab, most recently served as senior reporter for The Advertiser-Gleam in Guntersville for three and half years. Prior to his time is Guntersville, he began his career in journalism in 2013 at The Arab-Tribune where he worked for a year.

In December 2014, Cagle, 27, joined the staff at The Gleam. In the last three and a half years, he has exclusively covered the Marshall County Commission, the Town of Grant, Guntersville High School athletics as well as athletics for schools in the City of Guntersville and Marshall County.

Cagle and his wife, Lauren, married in June 2015. They have twin two-and-a-half-year-old boys, John and Parker.

“My wife and I are very excited to take on this new challenge,” he said. “I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity to work as the managing editor for Greenville Newspapers – it’s a dream come true. Greenville and the surrounding areas are beautiful. As a family, we’re excited to live, work and play in Greenville. South Alabama has an undeniable charm that Lauren and I can’t wait to be a part of.”

When he’s not working as a journalist, Cagle enjoys playing music as his favorite hobby. He has recorded several original tracks in Guntersville and Huntsville. Cagle plans to continue his musical interest in the Camellia City and the rest of the Greenville coverage area.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Joe in the past and he shares the same passion that I do for community journalism,” Greenville Newspapers, LLC president and publisher Adam Prestridge said. “Joe’s enthusiasm, work ethic and dedication to the community are evident with every stroke of the keyboard. I can’t wait for the people of Butler County to meet him and his lovely family as they set roots in Greenville.”

During his time in Guntersville, Cagle developed a love and passion for local news. He plans on applying what he has learned to the Greenville community and its surrounding areas.

“I can’t thank the people in Guntersville enough for helping me achieve the position as editor in Greenville,” he said. “I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve worked under and the people I’ve worked with in the Guntersville community when it comes to what is required to produce local news. Butler County is home to so many unique communities and people. I can’t wait to cover all of those communities and give the people in each of them the newspaper they deserve.”

Cagle will begin working in Greenville on May 7 and plans to relocate permanently to Greenville with his family in the coming weeks.
