Elisha Calvin Poole was born in Greenville, Alabama, September 22, 1929 and died March 29, 2018.  He graduated from Greenville High School, was an Eagle Scout, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in 1951, and was an active member of Sigma Nu fraternity.  He served in the Office of Special Investigations of the United States Air Force while on active duty during the Korean War.  Afterwards, he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law where he served as Editor of the Law Review.  He practiced law with his father and eventually his sons in Greenville, Alabama for more than 50 years. 

Elisha was a life-long Episcopalian and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville at the time of his death.  A self-described Libertarian, he was involved in many civic and political affairs both locally and nationally throughout his

life.  He served as president of the local United Fund and Rotary Club, which named him a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was one of the founders of Fort Dale Academy and served for several years as its first Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Poole was elected to the Alabama Independent School Association Hall of Fame in 2005 for his leadership in education.  He served for many years as board member and later Chairman of the Board of the First National Bank of Greenville.

Elisha Calvin Poole is survived by his wife of 64 years Juanita Cumbie Poole, son Calvin Poole, III and his wife Mary Rogers Weiss Poole, son Cleveland Poole and his wife Fay Smith Poole, grandson Calvin Crenshaw Poole and his wife Caroline Shackleford Poole, grandson James Conyers Poole and his wife Lucy McDaniel Poole, grandson John Coleman Poole, grandson Edward Elisha Poole, granddaughter Evelyn Fay Poole, and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Crenshaw Poole, Calvin Poole IV and Max McDaniel Poole.  Elisha Calvin Poole was preceded in death by his father Calvin Poole II and his mother Mary Eunice Crenshaw Poole.

Visitation was held at the residence of Calvin Poole III in Greenville, Ala., at 504 Fort Dale Road from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018. A graveside service will be held on The Ridge at the Crenshaw Family Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 with The Reverend Linda Suzanne Borgen officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Thomas Capital Building Fund or the Fort Dale Academy PTA.
