Mattie Belle Johnson

Mattie Belle Johnson (“Ms. Matt”) was born in Mixonville, Ala. to the late Onezer Johnson and Mary Pennington on Nov. 24, 1945.

Mattie was united with Springhill Baptist Church in her youth. Later, she joined Second Baptist Church.

She had a true love for the church, and made sure that her children had an established Christian background.

Soon after being of age, she moved up north to Galesburg, Illinois. She was united in marriage to David Clark on Nov. 24th, 1962.

She later made her final home in Georgiana, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ross, Fathers, Onezer Johnson and Roman Ross; Siblings: Pauline Ross, Theodore Ross, Lynn Johnson and Floyd Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three devoted children who cherished her very much: Debra Clark of Mobile, Ala.; Gail Carter of Pensacola, Fla.; Borope Clark of Buffalo. NY.; three loving grandsons, Steven Clark of Auburn, Ala.; Jonah Carter of Pensacola, Fla.; and John Carter of Buffalo, NY; nine sisters and four brothers: Joyce (Johnny) Crumpton of Mobile, Ala.; Jeron Ross of Georgiana, Ala.; Nathaniel (Teresa) Ross, of Youngstown, Ohio; Brenda (Kenneth) Peterson of Georgiana, Ala.; Sanquette Ross of Detroit, Mi.; Herston Ross and Debbie Taylor of Denver, Col.; Elaine Harkness of Georgiana, Ala.; Elsie (Donnie) Townsend of San Antonio, Tex.; Sylvia Styles of Miami, Fla.; Paul Johnson of Atlana, Ga.; Lillian Gale Johnson  of Miama, Fla.; Carolyn Johnson of Hollywood, Fla.; one great Aunt, Jerria Pennington of Georgiana, Ala.; a special cousin, Ruby pennington Peterson; a special friend, Charles Thomas of Greenville, Ala., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.

The repast will be held at the Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church following the service.
