Paul Zeigler Hinson

Paul Zeigler Hinson, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away Dec. 31, 2017 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Penny Ford officiating. Burial followed at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irby and Cammie Hinson; sisters, Callie Francis, Dorothy and Irby Jean; and stepson, Mike Lackey.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet C. Hinson; sons, Andy Hinson (Glenda) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Brantley Hinson of Northport, Ala.; nephews, Edward H. Searcy of Fort Worth, Texas and Joseph H. Armstrong (Joan) of Northport, Ala.; niece, Jean Thibodeau (David) of Nashville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Nira Champagne of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Paul Hinson (Callan), Angie Pate (Lynn), Ashley Grimes (Allen), Shaun Lackey (Kay), Cody Lackey (Jamie), Allison Gleen (Mark) and Anna Lackey; great-grandchildren, Hugh, Hayden and Harrison Pate, Kaitlin, Kaylee, Kendall and Khloe Grimes, Eli Gleen and Mark Hayden, Landon, Hayden and Brixton Lackey and Montana Booth.

Paul was born in 1928 and raised in Greenville, Ala. He attended Greenville Public Schools and after graduation in 1947, attended college at Auburn University where he played in the marching band.

He served his country in the Korean War in 1950 with the 45th Thunderbird Division, was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant and received the Silver Star medal for gallantry and valor in combat.

He was employed with the Department of Agriculture and retired from the same in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Paul and Janet loved to go camping in their travel trailer, and did so whenever they could. They made many friends and good memories.

The family would like to thank Dr. David E. Harding and staff, Dr. William A. Hill, Jr., the nurses of the MICU Unit at DCH Medical Center and Alacare, The friendly employees and owner of Wright’s Restaurant and all the friends and loved one who came by to see him. Thank you so much. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Brantley Hinson, Shaun Lackey, Landon Lackey, Mark Gleen, Bruce Lancaster and Paul Hinson, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were the past and present members of his platoon of the 45th Thunderbird Infantry Division, Dr. Lee Thomas, Dr. Peter A. Trice and family.
