The Butler County Humane Society is gearing up for the new year and a new addition: the county’s first animal welfare organization for its tweens and teens.

“We are very excited about getting the Butler County Junior Humane Society underway,” says BCHS vice president Kimberly Matthews. “We’ve been in touch with all the schools throughout the county this fall and we have had a lot of interest shown by the students and their families.”

The first meeting of the new Butler County Junior Humane Society is set for Saturday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 210 Church St. in Greenville.

“We just need the kids to check by the Shell Depot to pick up copies of waivers, our mission statement and to get directions to our meeting place,” says Matthews.

“We are looking forward to helping our county’s youth have a great year promoting animal welfare in our county in 2018!”

In other BCHS news, the organization is looking for gently used household items, home décor, seasonal items, tools, small kitchen appliances, children’s toys and games, CDs, DVDs and other items as donations for their Hidden Treasures booth. “We are really in need

of some new items for our booth, so if you have some things you’d like to clear out of those closets, please keep us in mind. It is a great way to help support our worthy cause,” says Matthews.

Any donations (accessories are accepted, but no clothing, please) should be placed in a box marked “BCHS Hidden Treasures” and dropped off at the Shell Depot in Greenville. For larger donations, contact Matthews at 437-2150 to make arrangements for pick-up.

The next meeting of the Butler County Humane Society is set for Wednesday, January 10 at 1 p.m. at the Camellia City Bakery in downtown Greenville. Everyone is invited to come early to enjoy lunch and/or dessert.
