We all know that Santa and his reindeer-powered sleigh will tour the world on Christmas Eve to deliver eagerly awaited gifts to good boys and girls.

But this year, Santa is making a special trip to the Camellia City more than two weeks in advance of that round-the-world flight.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, jolly old Saint Nick is slated to fly into Greenville via helicopter and land in the parking lot across from Wintzell’s Oyster House at 11 a.m.

It seems that Tim Holp, manager of the Greenville Wintzell’s, has some special connections.

“Yes, it’s true. I do have a direct line to the North Pole and Santa,” Holp explains. “We’ve made special arrangements to have Santa fly in to town and to meet with the children that day. It’s going to be so much fun for everyone.”

Once Santa lands, several elves will be on hand to escort the whiskered one in the red and white suit across the street and into Wintzell’s Oyster House, where Santa will remain until 5 p.m. to meet with the children, hear their Christmas wishes and pose for photos. There will also be plenty of free hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy during their visit.

“Santa has come to visit us at my restaurants in the past, and it’s always been such a treat for our staff and for all the local kids and their families. We hope to make this an annual event here in Greenville,” Holp says.

With South Alabama weather being somewhat capricious, there is also a back-up plan in place.

“If the skies don’t allow Santa to fly in that Saturday, never fear—our local firefighters will make sure he gets to the restaurant on one of their shiny red fire trucks,”assures Holp.

So, whether by copter or truck, Santa Claus is definitely coming to town.

“So bring your kids and your cameras or cell phones and join us for a fun, festive day with Santa,” Holp says.
