Three talented young ladies have earned prizes for their artwork, with one of their designs slated to be featured on the latest edition of the Butler County Humane Society T-shirt.

Hannah Schofield and Gretchen Riley of Fort Dale Academy and Shaniah Boggan of Greenville Middle School were the first, second and third place winners respectively in the BCHS’s recent Youth T-Shirt Art Design Contest.

“There were several great designs, but we had to narrow it down to three,” said Angie Long, PR chair for the organization. “I, along with several members of the BCHS and the Greenville Advocate staff, all of whom have art/graphic design backgrounds, did the judging. We were looking for colorful designs with originality and creativity that would make a successful t-shirt graphic and help convey our mission.”

Hannah Schofield’s winning design featured two cute pets in an embrace asking people to “Adopt. Prevent Abuse. Love.”

“We all thought Hannah’s design showed real artistic skill and conveyed just the right message we want to share with the community. And it’s adorable. It will look great on the back of our T-shirts,” said Long.

Schofield will receive a complimentary T-shirt featuring her design along with the $25 cash prize courtesy of The Greenville Advocate, a set of double-ended artist markers donated by a BCHS member and a first place ribbon already presented to her.

Riley will also receive a complimentary T-shirt with Schofield’s design along with the second place ribbon and set of artist’s gel pens donated by a BCHS member and already presented to her.

Boggan earned a big pet-themed goody basket from the BCHS and a third place ribbon for her entry.

“We had a total of 17 students from FDA and GMS who participated in this year’s contest, something we hope to make an annual event. We so appreciate T.K. Lee and Will Stokes for encouraging their students to enter the contest, and look forward to having more students from more schools across the county participate in future contests.” Long said.
