Greenville High School’s Class of 2003 remembered a beloved late classmate in the most appropriate way possible on Friday, Sept. 29.

Representatives of the class made a special presentation of a trumpet bearing the name of Joseph Chandler to the Greenville High School Band.

Chandler, a Greenville High School graduate from the 2003 class, played football as a student, and he also was a trumpet player in Greenville’s concert and marching bands under former band director Rick Ashcraft.

He would go on to play with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marching Blazers.

Chandler passed away on Aug. 31, 2017, and his fellow classmates raised more than $1,000 to purchase a trumpet for the current GHS band so that his name might live on.
