With the witching hour soon to be upon us, what better time to hear of ghostly tales from long ago set right here in Alabama?

On Tuesday, October 10, the Greenville-Butler County Public Library is hosting “Lost Antebellum Alabama,” a presentation by Alabama historian Jim Phillips. Phillips, a popular regional historian and videographer, will be sharing stories of the state’s forgotten antebellum towns, stagecoach routes and riverboat landings, along with some eerie tales perfect for the season.

“Jim Phillips is a frequent and popular presenter at libraries across our state and we think everyone will really enjoy this program, so come join us,” said library director Kevin Pearcey.

The “Lost Antebellum Alabama” program begins at 5 p.m. in the community room with light refreshments provided.

And there’s something new at the library this autumn—a second chance for bibliophiles of all ages to bag book bargains while helping support the local library with their dollars and cents.

“In the past we’ve had one book sale a year in the spring, but this year the Friends of the Library are hosting a second book sale in the fall,” said Pearcey.

The sale dates are Friday and Saturday October 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday in thelibrary’s community room.

Prices will remain the same, Pearcey says–$1 for hardbound books and 50 cents for paperbacks. Magazines, DVDs and CDs will also be available for purchase.

Need to clear out some books before you considering buying more?

That’s no problem. Pearcey says the library will be taking donations right up until the sale.

The monies raised by the semi-annual book sale are donated to the library to assist with various supply, equipment and program needs.
