Burchie Lister Crosby

Burchie Lister Crosby, a resident of Greenville, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2017.

She was born in New Orleans Louisiana on Dec. 18, 1922 to the late Dr. Robert Hood Lister and Ruth Griffin Lister.  Burchie grew up in Birmingham where she attended the Phillips School and was graduated from the University of Alabama.

Burchie is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. William Mills Crosby and her brothers Dr Robert Hood Lister, Jr of Twin Falls, Idaho; Dr Irvin Canon Lister of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Dr Rufus Griffin Lister of Birmingham, Alabama.  She is survived by her children Ruth Griffin Crosby, Katherine Flowers Crosby Dyer (Joe), William Mills Crosby, Jr., Robert Lister Crosby (Nedra) and Burchie Crosby Ellinger (Emery); eight grandchildren, Robert Lister Crosby, Jr, William Joseph Dyer, Jr, Griffin Dyer Pepper, Benjamin Stimpson Crosby, Merlin Emery Ellinger IV, William Crosby Ellinger, Nedra Toulmin Crosby, and Burchie Lister Ellinger; and one great-grandchild, Evangeline Mae Pepper.

Burchie, a life long Methodist, was very active and involved in the First Methodist Church in Greenville. 

Pallbearers were Robert Lister Crosby, Jr., William Joseph Dyer, Jr, Benjamin Stimpson Crosby, Merlin Emery Ellinger, IV, and William Crosby Ellinger.  Honorary Pall Bearers are Dr Aubrey A Stabler Jr.,  James McGowin Williamson,  Bruce Dozier Bennett,  James Earle McGowin, Dr Norman F McGowin, III, and Judge Stephen Norman.

A graveside service was held at Magnolia Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Angie Long officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home diecting.  The family will receive friends at the home of Dr Robert L Crosby on Manningham Road immediately following the service.   

Dunklin Daniels Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to First Light,  2230 4th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203, or to The First United Methodist Church in Greenville, Alabama.
