The Butler County Humane Society is looking for some talented young artists and animal lovers to create a new t-shirt design for them this fall.

“We need a new look for our organization’s t-shirts, and we thought it would be so cool to have our county’s students use their creativity to come up with some great designs,” said Kimberly Matthews, contest chair.

The t-shirt artwork contest is open to all county residents ages 6-18.

The specifications are as follows: Designs should be approximately 8×10 inches in size, and original hand-drawn/painted images, along with digitally created images, will be accepted.

At least two or more animals should be featured in each submission, including, but not limited to, cats, dogs, birds, horses and rabbits. Designs should convey one or more aspects of the mission undertaken by the BCHS: preventing the abuse and neglect of animals; helping homeless animals find homes and getting more animals spayed and neutered in the county to help decrease animal overpopulation.

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, November 1. No entries will be accepted after 5 p.m. that day. All entries should be turned in with a paper-clipped attachment supplying the name, age, school and contact info (phone and email, if applicable), either printed or typed.  A box located in the Greenville Advocate office is the drop-off place for the artwork.

“We will be sending out flyers to the different schools with the information the students will need, so be on the lookout for that,” said Matthews.

Winners will be announced on Friday, November 1 on the Greenville Advocate’s Facebook page.

First prize winner will receive a T-shirt featuring their winning design, a $25 cash prize courtesy of event sponsor, The Greenville Advocate and $20 in art supplies donated by a BCHS member.

The second place winner will also receive a T-shirt along with $15 in art supplies, while the third place winner will take home a pet-themed gift basket as their prize.

“We are very excited about this contest and seeing what our county’s young people come up with for their designs,” said Matthews.
