Nanny’s Fine Dining is offering everyone a chance to enjoy a September Sunday evening of storytelling and song shared by a talented southern writer, musician and storyteller.  Sean Dietrich, also known as “Sean of the South,” will be performing outdoors on the restaurant’s front porch on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.

Attendees are invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments and enjoy a picnic on the restaurant’s front lawn while Dietrich performs a 90-minute set of songs and stories.  Admission is $10 and there are no advance tickets. Everyone can “pay at the porch.”

Dietrich, a columnist and novelist, is known for his commentary on life in the American South.

“I first heard him tell stories about a month ago in Andalusia. The first night I discovered his blog, though, I read it until way into the night; I couldn’t put it down,” said Linda Daughtry, co-host of the event with Nanny’s Rebecca Duncan.

Dietrich’s work has appeared in Southern Living, Good Grit, The Tallahassee Democrat, South Magazine, Yellowhammer News, the Bitter Southerner, Thom Magazine and The Mobile Press Register. He has also authored seven books.

“We think this is the first event of its kind here in our area. Rebecca and I have been working on this since May, but getting Sean scheduled hasn’t been easy. He’s had standing gigs at the beach and he’s getting more popular by the day.”

A self-described mediocre sailor and fisherman, biscuit connoisseur, and barbecue competition judge, Dietrich, when he isn’t writing or sharing stories and songs, spends much of his time aboard his fourteen-foot fishing boat (The S.S. Squirrel), along with his coon hound, Ellie Mae. 

A book signing is slated right after Dietrich’s performance at Nanny’s.

“Everyone will have the opportunity to purchase one of his many books and have it signed by the writer himself, meet Sean and his wife Jamie, and make pictures if you would like,” said Daughtry.

She is excited about the September performance.

“Sean sees God in simple, ordinary things and people. His Valentine story for his wife will simply rock your heart. And he’s also written about Greenville’s Camellia City Bakery and Ann Judah after stopping there to eat on his travels I’ve never heard him sing, so I am especially looking forward to that at Nanny’s!”

Nanny’s is located at the corner of State Highway 185 and Barganier Lane. From I-65, take exit 130 and turn on Highway 185 North, continuing on 185 (towards Fort Deposit) for six miles. Nanny’s, located in a former country home, sits directly across from the water tower. The phone number is (334) 406-9727. Attendees are reminded to bring their own refreshments; the restaurant itself will not be open that evening except for use of its restroom facilities.

“Everyone who attends our evening with Sean is really in for a treat,” said Daughtry.
