Need a boost this summer? Want to share a good laugh and a good meal with family and friends while supporting the arts in the Camellia City?

Then you will want to check out The Greenville Community Theater’s production, “Penny For Your Thoughts,” a dinner theater comedy that is “sure to bring a smile to your face and laughter to your soul,” says Johnna Pitts, president of the GCT.

“The play centers around Penny (played by Hannah Styron), a young girl with a relationship dilemma that is complicated by her chaotic ‘egos’ – several different ‘voices’ in her head that reflect the different aspects of her personality,” Pitts explained. “The laughter ensues as Penny tries to sort through the often conflicting advice from her egos, as well the mixed messages from her two suitors. It’s such a funny show!”

The dinner theater is slated for July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Greenville First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The dinner menu (sponsored by BBQ 65) consists of smoked chicken, two side dishes and a dessert.

“We have had so much success with the dinner theater format in the past that we decided it was time to do it again, said Pitts. “And we are in love with our selection. ‘Penny For Your Thoughts’ is a very funny offering, with a light-hearted drama/comedy mix that will keep the audience completely delighted.”

Pitts calls the cast “fantastic.” Joining Hannah will be her sister Michelle Norris, both of whom are new to the GCT. “We also welcome newcomer Leith Greene, as the handsome Rick Winters,” Pitts said.

“Rounding out the cast are some community theater regulars: TJ Garrard, Mollie Waters, Harriett Foshee, Jessica Bell, Cierra Oswald, Joseph Longmire and, yours truly. And the wonderful Lori Neilson and Pam Hubachek are co-directors for the performance.”

Pitts says the continued mission at the GCT is to keep theater alive in Butler County by giving local talent a venue in which to showcase their skills. “It’s not an easy task, by any means, but it is a passion for us that has been embraced by the community,” the GCT president says.

“We hope everyone will get their tickets soon, as these dinner theaters tend to sell out fast. Tickets are $25 each for dinner and the show and are available at The Medicine Shoppe, McFerrin’s and The Pineapple in Greenville.”
