The Greenville High School varsity cheerleading squad made waves of a different sort in Panama City, Fla., during last week’s Universal Cheerleaders Association cheer camp.

The team won a gold “superior” ribbon for all three evaluations given at the camp, which included a sideline, cheer and dance.  (Gold is the highest ribbon to receive.)

The team ranked top five in the cheer and band dance competitions and third place in the extreme camp routine.

The team also won the “Whale of the Day,” which is a school spirit award given to the squad with the most spirit.

Greenville High School’s cheer squad had six girls nominated for All-American and two girls chosen.

The six girls nominated were Alyssa Lear, Kaitlyn Neese, Caitlyn Tilley, Sydney Owens, Aniyah McClaney and Kendra Robinson.

The two girls that were chosen were Alyssa Lear and Caitlyn Tilley.

The squad also had five senior girls invited to tryout for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Staff next year.

“These girls showed their best leadership and teamwork skills through-out cheer camp this year,” said cheer sponsor Anna Findley.

“The UCA Staff hand selected these cheerleaders because of their positive attitudes and role model-like qualities as a Greenville High School cheerleader. This is a prestigious honor and I hope they all take pride in their accomplishments.”
