Funeral Services for Mr. Leavy Ingram Jr. was held on Friday, June 2, 2017, at noon, at Butler Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Harold Simpson officiating. Carter Rice & West Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

Mr. Leavy Ingram, Jr. was born Feb. 4, 1939 and departed this life on May 28, 2017.  Leavy was the tenth child born to the late Ruby Peterson Ingram.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton and James Ingram; and his sisters, Katie Ingram, Allean Ingram Betton, Susie Mae McDowell, Edna Crenshaw, Johncie Lee Demings, Beatrice Washington and Ruby Lee Culver. 

In 1962, Leavy joined the United States Army and served from 1962-1965 in the Vietnam War.  After his time in the service, he lived in Chicago, Racine, Wis., and Rochester, N.Y.  Finally, he returned to Greenville, Ala., where he worked more than 25 years in law enforcement.  He worked as a deputy with the Butler County Sherriff’s Department and as a police officer in Butler and Lowndes counties.  Leavy, affectionately called Soap by all who loved and knew him, had a love for cooking and will be remembered by his family in a very delightful way. He leaves to cherish the memories of his life his sisters, Lula Ingram Briggs, Greenville, Ala., Willia Ingram Powell, Birmingham, Ala., and a devoted sister, Annie Ruth Ingram, Greenville, Ala. Annie Ruth was his caregiver until he answered the Master’s call. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a very devoted niece, Teica Ingram, who assisted her mother with his care. He also leaves a host of cousins and friends.
