Memorial rodeo for Carter Boswell set for Saturday

Cowboys both near and far will be saddling up Saturday in remembrance of Carter Brunson Boswell during a memorial rodeo at the Butler County Fairgrounds.

Rodeo events and the Butler County Fairgrounds share a rich history of exciting fare throughout the past several years, but rodeo producer Jimmy Boswell (Carter’s uncle) said that Saturday night’s affair will be one for the record books.

“This will be the wildest show on dirt,” Boswell said with a degree of confidence.

“We encourage everyone to come out and see us.  It’s going to be a great ride or a better wreck.  We appreciate all of the sponsors that have stepped up to help make this fundraising event possible.”

Cowboys will be on hand at the Triple W Texaco Gas Station Saturday prior to the event from 11 a.m. until noon to sign autographs and take photos with fans.

F&S Tire is sponsoring the grill, and there are plans to grill Boston butts and ribs that will be available for purchase at F&S Tire and at the Texaco Gas Station.

Boston butts will be $25, and a slab of smoked ribs will sell for $20.

Preorders for butts and ribs can be placed by the end of the day Friday by calling F&S Tire at 665-4803 or the Texaco station at 383-9637.

Preorders can be picked up at the fairgrounds between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., just before the rodeo kicks off.

Concessions and other vendors will be on site for the event. Children can expect to join in on the Wild Goat Chase, and door prizes will be given away for the event.

In addition, longtime bull ride Nace Boswell will be tackling the challenge of riding Tarzan, the unridden bull of the year, during the Carter Brunson Boswell Bowtow Challenge.

The event kicks off Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and student tickets are on sale at Fort Dale Academy for $8.  They can also be purchased at the gate for $12.  Children ages 6 and under get in free.

Boswell encourages all local riders that are interested in participating to give him a call at 334-525-0436.
