The Squadron said goodbye to the 2017 baseball season with a tiebreaker loss against Ragland High on last Saturday.

Round one consisted of three games for the Flying Squadron.

Starting off pitching was senior Kyler Weeks, and finishing up was sophomore Moe Moseley. Combined they had 10 hits, three strikeouts and five earned runs.

Starting off the first game strong, senior Chase Mansmann hit his first home run of the season, with a two-run shot to bring in Noah Phillips and give the Squadron a 2-0 lead.

“There’s no other feeling than hitting a homerun,” Mansmann said.

Sophomore Moe Moseley went up the plate 1:1 with a RBI. Senior Nathan Scoggins batted 1:3 with a double.

The final score for game one was 6-5, with the Squadron losing.

The tables turned for the Flying Squadron as they won the second game, 13-10.

w“It was such a good feeling to get the “Win This Game” shirt. I can’t believe it will be the last one us seniors will ever get,” said senior catcher Clay Hobbs.  “Baseball has been an important part of my life and now it’s came to an end. It has been a bittersweet moment for us.”

Sophomore Noah Phillips and Mansmann had a combined total of seven innings of pitching for the second game.

They had 10 hits, 10 strikeouts, and eight earned runs.

Scoggins went 2:4 with two RBIs.

Seniors Cody Brown batted 2:4 and Hobbs batted 1:3; both having two RBIs. Weeks batted 1-4 with two RBIs. Noah Phillips went 1:3 with two RBIs. Moseley and Mansmann each had a RBI.

Splitting the two games, the Squadron must compete against the Purple Devils one more time. The third game followed over to Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Flying Squadron came up short, 6-1 in the final game of round on.

“I wish we could’ve gotten our sticks going a little better,” said Weeks.

HHS fought hard throughout all three games. “We gave it all we had. I hate to see the season end,” said Brown.

Hobbs pitched 6 innings and finished up the game was Daniel Phillips. Hobbs pitched six hits, four strikeouts, six earned runs. Phillips pitched one hit and one strikeout.

Moseley had one RBI and Scoggins hit 1:3 with a double.

“I can’t believe I played my last baseball game ever. We worked very hard to get where we were, and I hate that we didn’t make it further,” said Scoggins.
