Junior Nathan Renfroe pitched the entire game, setting the Bulldog’s defense, and keeping the Squadron from scoring. Renfroe made it difficult for Highland’s offense to attempt to score, striking out. Head Coach Austin Brook said that he was proud of the defense the boys put up against Highland. “We played strong defense tonight and made some good plays in the field,” he said.

As for Brantley’s offense, the team had a few hits that lead them into scoring. Brook also commented on the team’s hitting Friday night.

“We had a few timely hits here and there, but we really need to work on our approach at the plate,” he said. “Strikeouts are a problem for us, and we need to cut back on that.”

Juniors Edge Branum and Mack Wise both had doubles in the game, and seniors Jacob Free and Tommy Spivey also got on base to help the Bulldogs score against Highland. Spivey says that he felt the bats didn’t agree with the team as well as they have been in recent games.

“I feel like tonight we did good, but we didn’t do the best that we could’ve,” Spivey said. “We didn’t hit near as well as we usually do, and I think that’s one of the reasons the score was low.”

The game came to a close with the Bulldogs in the field, as a popfly was caught infield to end the game. The Brantley baseball team will play again on Monday in the Opp Tournament.
