This past Monday, the Bulldog baseball team traveled to Luverne High School in hopes to defeat them once again after the team’s previous win on March 3.

Junior pitcher Nathan Renfroe opened the game for Brantley, and was an asset to the team’s victory against Luverne with a final score of 5-1.

Renfroe says that he believed the team’s defense was a big contribution to the Tiger’s defeat. “Beating your rival is always great, but looking at the last time we played them, you can see a big difference in the way we played Monday night,” Renfroe said. “We were really solid on defense this time, and that showed.”

Brantley got on the scoreboard after junior centerfielder Adrian Person Jr. hit a triple, and sent in two runners for a score of 2-1 in the top of the third inning. Person says that the Bulldog’s approach at the plate Monday gave them the edge over Luverne.

“We had a couple of errors at first, but that faded pretty fast. After that, we started swinging the bat really well and overall played a great game against Luverne.”

Person also says that this win felt different for the team than the last game against Luverne. “It’s always a good feeling to beat Luverne, but knowing this was the last time our seniors would play them made the win that much better.” After Monday night, the Bulldog baseball team’s record currently sits at 7-6.

The Bulldog softball team came out on top in the Terry Collins Memorial Tournament held in Dothan this past weekend. The team took no losses throughout the series of games, putting them as the undefeated champions of the tournament. The scores of the games are as follows: Enterprise 7-0; Opp 12-0; Kinston 9-1; Enterprise 1-0; Niceville 4-1; and Geneva 2-0.

Junior Leanna Johnson pitched five wins this weekend, helping the team to bring home the trophy for the tournament. So far this season, Johnson has pitched a total of four no hitters, two of which she picked up within the last week.

Offensively, the Bulldogs showed no mercy. The team scored a total of 35 points in the Dothan tournament. Freshman Anna Kimbro hit a homerun in the game against the Opp Bobcats, and sophomore Hannah Sims also hit a homerun against Niceville. Sophomore Olivia Jones was productive at the plate, leading the team with 9 RBIs.

Currently, the Brantley softball team’s record sits at 21-2 and they are ranked 198 in the nation.
