Squadron falls short in tourney

The Highland Home Squadron softball team traveled to compete against the Greenville Tigers Thursday night, coming on top with a score of 17-3.

Sophomore Gracie Whiddon pitched a winning game with five hits, three earned runs and seven strikeouts.

Freshman Tarrianna Sankey went 2-3 with three RBIs, and junior Elizabeth Ruckel went 3-4 with four RBIs. Senior Katelyn Sport went 1-4 with two RBIs.

The Lady Squadron also traveled to Zion Chapel High School to face the Lady Rebels Monday night, winning 10-8, with Whiddon pitching seven strikeouts that game as well.

The Lady Squadron had an area game against the Georgiana Panthers cancelled due to rain, but will host an in-county game against the Luverne Tigers Monday afternoon.

The Squadron baseball team co-hosted a Crenshaw County tournament with the Luverne Tigers.

The Flying Squadron beat Pike County, Samson High School, but lost to Ariton High School.

During the Pike County game, senior Clay Hobbs pitched a winning game with a score of 10-0. He pitched all five innings with one hit, and seven strikeouts.

Senior Nathan Scoggins went 2-3 with two RBIs, and senior Cody Brown went 1-2 with two RBIs. Sophomores Noah Phillips and Josh Petty both had one RBI.

Next, the Squadron competed against the Samson Tigers winning 7-3. Senior Chase Mansmann pitched five hits, three earned runs, and 7 strikeouts.

Sophomore Daniel Phillips went 3-4 with two RBIs, and a home run. Phillips and sophomore Moe Moseley each had one RBI.

Coming up short HHS lost, 5-3.

The Flying Squadron will travel to Georgiana to play the Panthers Thursday afternoon and then host a double header against the Georgiana Panthers Friday afternoon.
