Heads up: there are opportunities to learn how to revamp the way you eat and how to better protect yourself coming to Trinity Fitness next month.

On Saturday, April 1, a special class on the benefits of  “getting real” through plant-based nutrition is coming to the Greenville fitness center.

“We have a wonderful instructor, Lori Clark, coming to teach this class,” says Trinity staff member Jeanie Cobb. “Lori has recently completed certification in whole food plant-based nutrition, and she is working toward a degree in public health with an emphasis on health education and promotion.”  Clark is also a certified group fitness instructor, certified trainer, Zumba instructor and is a YogaFit 200-RYT. Topics to be covered by Clark’s class including the pros of choosing a plant-based diet, decisions about protein and how to get started on such a plan.

“There are so many benefits to moving to this type of diet, especially if you have any number of health issues, including diabetes, heart disease, MS, fibromyalgia and many more,” Cobb says. “If you want to lose weight, feel better and possibly eliminate the need for certain medications, this is truly something to consider.”

Registration begins at 8 a.m. that morning and the class is slated to run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The cost is $25 for all participants, members and non-members alike. Each attendee is asked to bring a fruit or veggie snack to share.

“You can get prepared for the class by visiting Netflix and checking out ‘Forks Over Knifes,’ ‘Food Matters,’ or ‘Plant Pure Nation,’” Cobb says.

On Saturday, April 8, Byron Russell of the Greenville Police Department will be leading a ladies’ self-defense class.

“The members are given first chance at slots for this training and I have four to five slots left,” says Cobb. “Our police chief, Justin Lovvorn, says they will come and do a second class for us if enough women were interested.”

While there is no charge for the self-defense class, Cobb asks a donation of $7 per participant in order to present restaurant gift cards as a “thank you” for the police officers involved. She will also purchase water, fruit and power bars to help hydrate and fuel participants through all the intense hands-on training involved in the class.

Registration for the class starts at 7:45 a.m. The class gets underway at 8 a.m. and should wind up between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Anyone interested in either class should contact Jeanie Cobb via Facebook, at Trinity Fitness or by email at jcobb001@elmore.rr.com.
