A pair of thwarted weekend burglaries of Greenville businesses leaves two men behind bars, courtesy of Greenville Police Department investigators.

On Saturday, March 4, patrolling officers discovered a broken door window at a local business on Dohrimier Street at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The officers then observed that a large rock had been thrown through the window and was lying inside of the business.

“The officers then entered the business and located a white male in one of the hallways,” said Greenville Police Department chief Justin Lovvorn.

“He was taken into custody and transported to the police department for the investigations department to interview.”

The suspect, who has been identified as Steven Price, a 32-year-old white male from Gordon, Ala., admitted to breaking into the building and stealing several items from inside.

He was charged with third-degree burglary and transported to the county jail, where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

In an unrelated case, investigators were called to a business on East Commerce Street on Feb. 20 in reference to a burglary.

An unknown suspect had forced his way into a business overnight by damaging a side door. The suspect took approximately $400 in merchandise and fled.

Last Friday at around 1:20 p.m., investigator Sgt. Kenneth Hadley received information that the suspect was breaking into the same business again.

Hadley and several patrol officers responded to the business on East Commerce Street, where a suspect then ran out of a side door of the business and fled from the approaching officers.

Authorities pursued the suspect for several blocks on foot, but where unable to apprehend him at that time.

Hadley later identified the suspect as Timothy Bones, a 48-year-old black male from Greenville. 

“Sgt. Hadley was able to track down Timothy Bones on March 6,” Lovvorn said.

“He confronted Mr. Bones with the evidence that had been collected against him, and Mr. Bones admitted to breaking into the business on Commerce Street on Feb. 20 and March 3.”

Bones was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of fourth-degree theft of property and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

He was transported to the county jail, where he is being held on a $28,000 bond.

“I would like to commend the efforts of both patrol and investigations,” Lovvorn said.

“They worked together to get these potentially dangerous criminals off the streets and protect our businesses and their property.
