Students take over central office in leadership exercise

Butler County students effectively became board members earlier this week during the Central Office Takeover event Monday.
The leaders of Butler County Career Technical Education organizations were given a chance to showcase their leadership at the Central Office on Feb. 27, 2017.
Leaders from organizations such as FBLA, FFA, JAGs, ROTC, Skill USA, and HOSA were assigned to various positions at the central office to experience a workday with our wonderful central office personnel. Each organization selected one person to represent their chapter for the position of superintendent, and after the superintendent was selected by a scoring of the interview process, the remaining students served as Butler County Board of Education Board members.
The superintendent’s position required the student to complete an application, cover letter, resume, and interview with an outside panel to be selected as CTE Superintendent for 2017-2018 school year. The interview panel consisted of Representatives from local businesses and post-secondary college.
The representatives were Mr. David of Norwood of Alabama Power Company, Mr. Cleve Poole of Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Dr. Coretta Boykins of Reid State College, Mr. David Hutchinson of Butler County Workforce Development, and Ms Laushaun Watson of Reid State College.
This is one of the many experiences Butler County Career Academy provides to offer real world learning to prep our students to become productive citizens, and marketable in the workforce.
Butler County Career Coach Mr. Otis Grayson organizer of this event stated, “Butler County Career Academy is committed to preparing a solid workforce for Butler County”.
Butler County Career Academy begin the process of preparing students starting in the middle school with developing Academic Career Pathways under the direction of the counselors of Butler County Schools.
Developing new ways to expose and challenge our students is a focus area of BCCA. Mrs. Jennifer Burt CTE Director stated, “We are always looking for opportunities to involve our community in exercises to help prepare our students for the next level of life.”
