With a more protected city in mind, business owner Sherry Prevett formed the Spring Fling Market to be held Saturday, March 4.

“We have so much to offer the community event wise,” she said.

“It will be a fun little day.”

Funds from the event will go to develop a neighborhood crime watch for the City of Luverne. The fling is loaded with speakers and entertainment, including Luverne Police Chief Mike Johnson.

“I want to make the community aware of how to protect themselves,” Johnson said. “The police department would work hand and hand with a neighborhood watch program. We’ll be there to do our part whenever they call.”

Prevett says she has discussed the need for a neighborhood crime watch with many government officials.

“I have spoken with several of the city council people,” she said.

“They were very encouraging. Everyone is very conscious about the need for the program.”

Through the Spring Fling, Prevett says she hopes that awareness will be promoted throughout the community.

“I hope that is will be successful,” she said.

“With increased awareness, we will become more safe ourselves.”

The event will take place on 5th Street, next to Prevett’s shop 13 on 5th. It will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at approximately 2p.m. Admission is free. Over 10 vendors are slated to be apart of fling.

“I hope the citizens of our community do come off, and really enjoy themselves,” Prevett said.

The first purchase of the program will be neighborhood watch signs to be placed throughout Luverne.
