A Tuesday morning accident involving a utility transfer truck produced an environmental hazard, but no lives lost.

The accident occurred a mile south of Highway 106 on Dozier Highway.

“It is a true miracle that there were no injuries caused by this accident,” Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency Director Elliot Jones said.

“Not only was the driver miraculously okay, but no other motorists were on the roadway when this accident occurred.”

The truck eventually came to rest over a small creek, and began to leak fluids into the water. Jones says once the environmental hazard was verified, he notified the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for an evaluation of the area.

“The quick response of our emergency first responders, as always, were second to none,” he said.

Crenshaw County EMA, state officials and a clean-up crew supplied by Harper Electric of Andalusia worked together to resolve the issue. The transfer truck was eventually recovered by the use of a heavy duty wrecker and bulldozer.

“The volunteers are the true backbone of an incident like this,” Jones said.

The chemical spill in the watershed was properly taken care of by clean-up crews, and documented with ADEM.
