You can run, have fun or simply enjoy a beautiful Saturday in the park with your family and friends, all the while taking a stand for children’s welfare this spring.

The Healthy Kids 5K/10K Run-Walk encouraging all to “Take a Stand and Prevent Child Abuse & Neglect” returns to Confederate Park in Greenville on Saturday, April 8. Organizers are planning a really big event, says HK director Lisa Nimmer.

A plethora of entertainment options will also be on offer at Confederate Park that morning. “We have something for everyone,” Nimmer says. “There will be fun kid’s games and rides, face painting, plus performances by youth groups and local choirs and more. It’s a great day for the whole family.”

Massage therapy for the runners after the 5K/10K will also be on tap to help soothe those aching muscles.

And speaking of the run-walk, those who sign up early will save. Register before March 16 and pay a $20 entry fee; between March 16-April 7, the fee will be $25 and it goes up to $30 on the morning of the event. The fee includes an eye-catching “Take a Stand” t-shirt featuring the event sponsors on the back of the shirt.

“This event is for all levels of fitness,” said Nimmer. “Whether you are a beginning runner or a seasoned one, or you just plan to leisurely walk the route, you are welcome to join us.”

On April 8, registration and package pickup is slated to begin at 7 a.m., with the 5K/10K set to start at 8:30. Rides and games are on tap at 9 a.m. with the fun run for the younger set to follow at 10 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their cutest and most fun costumes and enter the costume contest at 10:15 a.m., with awards going to the best dressed of the day.
