Weathering the storm: Weekend storms result in road blockages, property damages

Throughout the weekend, storms came through Crenshaw County causing many trees and power lines to fall. According to the Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), no deaths or injuries occured.
Over the weekend, Crenshaw County experienced three days of downed power lines and trees, structural damages and straight-line winds, but escaped with no injuries, no tornadoes and no fatalities.
“The weather came in three different phases. It appears that the worst damage did come through in the third, more concentrated round on Sunday,” said Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency Director Elliott Jones.
“That also was the first time we were able to use our new CodeRED system. As I’ve gotten feedback from citizens, it obviously has done well informing everyone of potential dangers.”
Multiple roads were blocked over the weekend due to storms that came through Crenshaw.
According to EMA, trees were down in 28 locations across the county, power lines were down in six different locations and two structures were damaged.
