Lady Squadron tramples Tigers, readies for Red Level

The Lady Squadron came out on top against area competitor, the McKenzie Lady Tigers with a win of 42-25.

Highland Home scoring early in the night gave a boost of confidence for the Lady Squadron.

With a total of 14 points, senior Allera June was the top scorer for the Lady Squadron.

Highland Home lost to the Lady Tigers at McKenzie, but they were sure not to let them take claim it again on their home court as they won.

HHS head coach, Melinda Avant is very proud to come out with a win for an area game as she says, “I’m so proud of the way my girls played. They all played hard and with pride.”

The boys game ended intensely with the Flying Squadron falling short against the Tigers, losing 63-61 in the last minute of the game.

“McKenzie was well prepared. They have good size and good athletes. When you’re a young team and you shoot 3 percent from the free throw line, you’re not going to be able to win close games,” Flying Squadron Head Coach Shawn Sellers said.

It seemed to be a back and forth fight for the region win against the Tigers. At halftime Highland Home was down, 38-36. Even though they didn’t come out on top, they put up much of a fight.

“Making a habit out of winning is a process, but we’re going to do it,” Sellers said.

Sophomore Terrion Nichols was the top scorer for the Flying Squadron as he scored 24 points Tuesday night.

Highland Home will travel to Red Level for another region game tonight.
