In a tough in-county match up, the Highland Home Flying Squadron fell 58-47 against the Brantley Bulldogs. Heading into the game, the Squadron had high spirits after their win against McKenzie last week.

“You know it is truly a process in building a winning program at Highland Home. In games, we fall short but it’s important to be competitive. I think our kids competed and I am proud of them,” said HHS Boys Head Coach Shawn Sellers.

Sophomore Terrion Nichols scored the most points for the Flying Squadron and following behind was sophomore Daniel Phillips with 12 points.

“What we are instilling is a sense of pride and dedication to our school and community and it is being built not by brick and mortar but by flesh and blood,” Sellers comments.

“You know they always told me it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight; it’s about the size of the fight in the dog,” said sophomore Donaven Roberson.

The Lady Squadron also traveled down to Brantley High School to face off against the Lady Bulldogs. With expectations unmet, the Lady Squadron lost 58-19.

Highland Home has been focusing on many fundamentals and is doing a lot of rebuilding in their basketball program this year.

Senior Tanner Harris is seeing much improvement within the girls as she says, “We had a very firm defense against BHS but gave up some points, which ended up hurting us in the end. We played better against them but we still have much to improve”

Like most games, senior Allera June was a leader on the court and in points, scoring 13 points Thursday night.

“We have been running new offenses, trying to figure out what will help us come out with a win. The girls work hard every day,” said HHS Varsity Girls Coach, Mendy Avant.

Highland Home will travel to Georgiana High School on Tuesday to compete against the Panthers.
