Christmas came early for the Greenville Tigers on the road Thursday night as the varsity boys made a big splash in the first round of the Andalusia Christmas tournament.

The Tigers shellacked the Opp Bobcats 92-37, improving to 4-1 on the season in the process. The Bobcats fell to 1-4.

The tournament opener marked a number of high-water marks for the young season thus far for Greenville, offensively speaking.

Four Tigers reached double figures.  Tyrone Ingram led the pack with 18 points, followed closely behind by Malik Bunch with 17 points.  Javion Posey and Charles Warren rounded out the top closers with 15 points and 10 points respectively.

Greenville head basketball coach Stu Stuedeman said that he was proud not only of his team’s continued excellence on the court, but also of the effort the Tigers gave despite the win being firmly in hand.

“I’m proud of our effort and our unselfishness tonight,” Stuedeman said.

“I’m proud of how our guys continued to play to our standard even though the score was so lopsided.  That’s something you can hang your hat on.

“We tell our guys all the time that greatness never goes on sale, and tonight I was pleased with how they bought into that.”

The Tigers advanced to the semifinals of the Andalusia Christmas Tournament to face Georgiana on Friday evening at 6 p.m., though results were unavailable as of press time.
