The Luverne Tigers travelled to Opp last night. The night ended with the varsity girls still clutching their undefeated title.

B-team did not fair well against the Bobcats, falling short 35-59.

“We didn’t play well,” Head Coach Ro Harris said.

“There was just a lack of emotion.”

Freshman Keyshawn Ezell boasted 13 points for the Tigers, while 8th grader Chance Turner add nine points of his own.

The B-team will break over the holiday season, but play to keep working on improving their game.

“We’re going to continue practicing over the break,” Harris said.

“We will keep getting better, so that we will be ready for Calhoun.”

In last week’s play, B-team was triumphant over New Brockton, 51-27.

The varsity girls season is shaping up into one of success. Even though they have lost junior point guard Jayla June for a month due to an ankle sprain, the Lady Tigers have not skipped a beat.

The Lady Tigers defeated Opp 42-19.

Last week, the team defeated New Brockton 37-19 and Red Level 39-18.

With an integral player gone for the remainder of the season, the varsity boys are progressing towards a new order.

“It’s been a transition,” Head Coach Richard Dorsey said.

“I think the guys are finally realizing that someone is going to have to step up.”

The varsity team lost to the Opp Bobcats 49-51. Senior La’Darion Harrell scored 15 points. Sophomore Dionte (Tay) Brantley added 14 points for the Tigers and senior Rondarius Steele finished the night with 11 points.

“We had a little too many turnovers, and didn’t shoot free throws like we should’ve,” Dorsey said.

“We’re trying to get better so that when we start conference play in January, we’ll be playing our best ball.”

Varsity boys lost to New Brocton 61-46, while they beat Red Level 55-48.

This week, the varsity boys and girls will travel to Brantley to compete in their Christmas Tournament that will span Dec. 15 – Dec. 17.

“We’re really working on us, because you never know who you’re going to play in a tournament,” Dorsey said.

“As long as we take care of what we can do, then we’ll let the chips fall as they may.”

All three teams will began regular season play again on Jan. 6 when they travel to compete against Calhoun.
