Cougars continue to work on fundamentals

On Tuesday night, the Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars basketball team faced the Evangel Christian Lions at home and lost by a score of 55-36.

Though they remain winless on paper, the Cougars proved victorious in other areas. Despite losing by 19 to the powerhouse Lions, the young team stayed optimistic and held a firm belief that Tuesday night was their best game yet.

“We’re getting better,” said CCA coach David Boothe of his inexperienced team.

“We’re just extremely young, but if we keep progressing like we are we’ll be fine. We’re working hard and basically expecting the worst and playing to be the best.”

The Lady Cougars were also ousted by an larger and more experience Lions’ team 54-9.  Sophomore Cassidy Sowell’s defensive efforts held Evangel from pulling away farther with three steals and two blocked shots.

“Our girls are a great group and are playing better together every time we step on the court,” explained assistant coach Nikki Bozeman.

“But there are key fundamentals that we just haven’t mastered yet that take time to learn.”
