The Kendrick-McGhee Charitable Foundation sought to bring more community involvement for youth, and its Luverne High School Alumni Basketball Tournament did just that.

Last Sunday, the tournament featured eight men’s basketball teams, and two women’s teams battling for the first place trophy.

“We started off with the alumni football game,” Director Payton McGhee said.

“We’re looking to do it with every sport.”

The foundation will use the proceeds to go to their scholarship fund, establish an AAU track team and contribute to the organization’s gospel concert in January.

“Our foundation was founded to fill the void of things not being done in the community for the youth,” McGhee said.

The winners of the men’s tournament were the Beast Mode team. Players included: Captain DJ McCreary, Rashad Cannon, Quindarrius Thagard, Desmond Harrell, Devonta Baugh, Gary Franklin, Montrez Cannon, Ketric Jackson and Coach TaNasha Baugh.

Winner of the women’ s tournament was the Shut Out Shooters team. Player included: Nyjah Thomas, Shakia Brantely, Alexus Redmon, Nadaja Debose, Payton Burnette and Coach Adaja Harrell.

“We’re thankful for everyone who came out and supported,” McGhee said.

“We couldn’t have done it without the community, and our great sponsors.”

In it’s fourth year, the KMC foundation will continue hosting community events. In December, the KMC foundation will have a talent show.
