Safe Harbor families to enjoy holiday meals

Letha Watford of Hancock Bank and Kathy Smyth, director of Safe Harbor, stock boxes filled with Thanksgiving turkeys and all the trimmings to be delivered to families currently served by the Children’s Advocacy Center. The meal project was a collaboration between Safe Harbor and Check Into Cash, Hancock Bank, First United Methodist Church and Joseph Ministries.
It will be a feast filled with turkey and all the “fixins’” come Thanksgiving for a number of families currently served by the Butler County Children’s Advocacy Center, Safe Harbor.
A total of 15 boxes with turkeys, canned goods and everything necessary to prepare a traditional holiday meal were delivered to the families on Tuesday. It was truly a collaborative effort, says Safe Harbor director Kathy Smyth.
“This project was motivated by LaTeya Barganier and Nicole Betterton at Check Into Cash here in Greenville who wanted to do something to give back to the community for Thanksgiving,” said Smyth. “And so we got together to do this.”
Check Into Cash started a canned food drive with its customers, while Letha Watford of Hancock Bank arranged to get turkeys for the meals. First United Methodist Church and Joseph Ministries then supplemented their donations with additional food items.
“We are so thankful and grateful to folks like Letha, LaTeya and Nicole and everyone who made this possible for our clients and their families,” said Smyth.
