Pet owners are invited to bring their quilts, canines and kith and kin to Confederate Park this Sunday, Oct. 23, for the Butler County Humane Society’s semi-annual Bark in the Park. Set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the event will feature a large array of fabulous flea market finds from home décor to pet costumes, treats and much more.

Concessions will be available, including pizza, sausage dogs, chips and soft drinks and water, all for just $1 each.

“We have well-known radio personality Major Delay of Cumulus Broadcasting returning to provide us with lots of upbeat tunes and to serve as a master of ceremonies for our pet parade and contest,” says event organizer Kimberly Matthews.

The pet parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per pet and costumes are welcome, but not required. All dogs will receive a title (such as “Best Dressed,” “Happiest” or “Most Beautiful Eyes”) and a treat, with one lucky canine taking the grand prize as Best Overall.

Santa is also slated to make an early appearance in the Camellia City that Sunday to pose for photos with pets and their people.

“Get your picture taken with Old Saint Nick for just $10 for a keepsake 5×7,” said Matthews.

“All funds raised at the event will go towards the BCHS’s mission to help homeless animals in Butler County,” said Matthews, adding,

“We also want to thank our event sponsors, including Piggly Wiggly, Coca-Cola, Golden Flake and Pizza Hut for supporting our very worthy cause.”
