Friday night, Highland Home traveled to Isabella High School for the Mustang’s homecoming.

After a rough start in the first half, the Flying Squadron came out after halftime with more fight in them.

Senior receiver, Cameron Felder, made the first touchdown of the night early in the third quarter, changing the mood in the stands and on sidelines. Felder had a total of 24 receiving yards during the game, five assists on defense and one touchdown.

“We didn’t come out strong in the first half, but we responded in the second half. The Squadron never quit. We stayed to our game plan, but we gave up too many big plays to close the game. There were many positives to take away from this game,” said HHS Assistant Coach Will Pouncey.

Senior receiver Drick Bell returned a kickoff for 80 yards in the fourth quarter. Bell had a total of 12 yards rushing during the game and one touchdown.

“There were some areas we improved on, but there are some areas we still need to improve on. Drick Bell had a great kickoff return, a special team improvement. We need to be a little bit more physical,” said HHS Head Coach Greg Baker.

“I think it’s a winnable ball game if we do what we’re supposed to do. If we don’t execute both sides of the ball and do what we’re capable of doing, I feel confident about Geneva County.”

“I think we played a pretty decent game in the second half. Our offensive line is competing and giving everything they have and I appreciate it,” Bell said.

“I think we need a little bit of more work and to be more aggressive, but we’re gradually improving. We are ready to go out there and work for this week’s game against Geneva County.”

Sophomore safety Donaven Roberson says, “We fought hard and never gave up. We have some improving to do, offensively and defensively. I still think we have a chance to make it to the play offs. We have time to improve before our next region game¨

The Flying Squadron will travel to Geneva County this Friday for the Bulldogs’ homecoming. Highland Home is currently 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in region play.

Highland Home will host their next region game against Autaugaville. The Squadron still have a chance to make it into the playoffs this year.
