Shriners celebrate 46th year of “World’s Largest Peanut Boil”

For the 46th year in a row, the Crenshaw County Alacazar Shrine Club hosted their annual “World’s Largest Peanut Boil” on Labor Day weekend.
This year approximately 25 tons of green peanuts were ordered, as well as one ton of dried peanuts.
Andy Compton, president of the Shrine Club, said the fundraiser is a tradition that should not be missed.
“It’s a big deal in Crenshaw County,” he said.
Members of the LHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) group came out to help with this year’s peanut boil.
“It’s been going very well; we’re pleased with it.
According to Compton, the Shriners are a fraternal organization and members must be Masons in order to be a Shriner. Shriners International has 194 temples worldwide, four of which are located in Alabama in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile and Huntsville.
Compton said approximately 25 tons of green peanuts were ordered this year, as well as one ton of dried peanuts. After the last batch was boiled, members took to the streets to sell what was left, said Compton.
“It’s a collaborative effort between all of the members,” he added.
