Dan and Jeanne Newby

Dan and Jeanne Newby

Dan and Jeanne Newby were married at the home of Jeanne’s parents in Reno, Il. on Sept. 12, 1941, just three months before the attack on Pearl Harbor that started World War II. Dan served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps, while Jeanne worked in the officer’s club in Hondo, Texas. Their first “baby-boomer” daughter, Gwynne, was born in 1947. Nancy and Lynn followed, with “adopted” son, Vinh, joining the family in 1976, following the Vietnamese surrender of Saigon. They raised their children in the Quad Cities, before moving to Pisgah Forest to spend 23 years of happy retirement. They loved their life in North Carolina, but they moved back to the Quad Cities in 2014 to be closer to family. The Newbys have 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who traveled from all over the world to celebrate their anniversary at a recent reunion. They will celebrate with friends at Park Vista Retirement Community Monday, September 12.
